Five-a-side football for Blind players has featured in the Paralympic Games since 2004. Great Britain (GBR)’s first participation was in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, when they qualified by virtue of the performances of England (ENG) who were nominated by GBDFA to serve as the “flag-bearer” in the absence of other home nation teams competing at international level. In the Games, GBR finished fifth of six nations.

In the build-up to the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where GBR had a guaranteed host nation place, ENG continued to be the sole home nation active on the international stage and demonstrated the following results:

  • Second in the 2009 European Championships in France
  • Fourth in the 2010 World Championships in Hereford, England
  • Fourth in the 2011 World Games in Turkey, and
  • Third in the 2011 European Championship, also in Turkey

In the London 2012 Paralympic Games, GBR finished seventh of eight nations.
